Jay-Z’s GOD DID RAP VERSE BREAKDOWN
GOD DID is an 8-minute,22 seconds rap song by Dj Khaled Ft Rick Ross, Lil Wayne & Jay-Z. This song has bagged so many nominations in the 2023 Grammy award and I think it is safe to say it is the biggest rap song of the year 2022. The song is all about praising God for their blessings and thanking God for seeing them through all the odds of the American system, the draconian laws and racial discrimination et al. Now, let’s talk about HOV’s 4 minutes poetry stating out facts about the American system and how they triumph over the system odds to become a billionaire.
Jay started with the phrase “it breaks my heart” and referred to his long-time producer and sound engineer (Young Guru) telling him to turn the beat on by asking (Where we at Gu?) and giving God the praise as the title of the song implies “GOD DID". And proceeded on to say HOV Did, meaning a reference to his name “Jay Hova" which means the god of MC,telling God to forgive him for making his money through selling “cocaine” and cooking it on the stove. Jay-Z went on to declare a bold statement “🎶Nobody touched the billi until HOV did🎶”. The “billi" is a short-term for billionaires and HOV occurs to be the first rapper to reach billionaire status. The word “billy” also means the male Goat 🐐 which implies the Greatest Of All Time status. So he was saying no rapper touched both the billionaire and G.O.A.T status until he did.
