Two Features Medium Should Add to Improve User Experience
As a writer and active user on Medium, I’ve been reflecting on some features that I believe would significantly enhance the experience for both creators and readers alike. There are two key features I think Medium should add:
1.) Direct Messaging
Writers on Medium should be able to connect directly with each other, and the addition of a Direct Message (DM) feature would make that possible. Currently, interactions are limited to comments or responses on posts, which, while valuable, don't allow for deeper collaboration or one-on-one conversations. A DM feature would enable writers to network, share ideas, or even collaborate on projects privately.
I understand that security is a concern—spammers could misuse this feature for fraudulent activities. However, with the right security measures and user reporting tools in place, this feature could transform how creators connect with each other and their readers. Implementing strong moderation, message filtering, and the ability to block or report unwanted contacts could help mitigate any potential downsides.
2.) Story or Status Feature
